Reducing extreme poverty via social transfer programmes: international course

Countries across ASEAN are recognising the value of social transfer programmes in reducing extreme poverty. An international course on ‘Designing and Implementing Social Transfer Programme’ brought together 47 policymakers, government officials and practitioners from 13 countries this year, the participation of 8 of them from Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand was sponsored by the EU. This course gave the participants better understanding on the comprehensive approach to social protection and on the ways in which appropriate social protection instruments can reduce poverty and vulnerability.
