At the ASEAN-EU Commemorative Summit, President Donald Tusk reiterated the European Union’s support to the ASEAN integration process. President Tusk in particular highlighted opportunities for strengthened EU-ASEAN cooperation, such as in security and global challenges, based on the new EU-ASEAN Plan of Action 2018-2022.
The leaders emphasised the importance of shared values and common interests that bind the two regions in a long-standing and unique relationship as “partners in integration”. Leaders reviewed developments in major areas of cooperation including trade and investment, security, connectivity, development cooperation, sustainable development, education, and people-to-people exchanges.
They agreed to accelerate efforts towards a Strategic Partnership between the EU and ASEAN by strengthening all areas of dialogue and cooperation.
