INTERPOL’s Major Events Support Team (IMEST) was deployed to assist law enforcement authorities in Lao PDR as part of the security infrastructure surrounding the 28th and 29th ASEAN Summits in Vientiane. The team helped Lao authorities in preparing, coordinating and implementing security arrangements during the Summit. For example, immigration officers carried out passenger screening and document examination at airports, using INTERPOL’s global policing capabilities, including global databases and mobile technology. IMEST is the EU’s pilot action operating under the umbrella of the three-year EU-ASEAN Migration and Border Management Programme II. For more information, please see the video and the press release.
