Yogyakarta, Indonesia, 5-6 November 2015. The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) and Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime (SOMTC) organised its first ever joint workshop on “Human Rights-based Approach to Combat Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children”. During the workshop, AICHR, SOMTC and other relevant ASEAN bodies/sectoral bodies discussed and synthesized their efforts in prevention and protection issue of trafficking in persons in ASEAN, resulted in some recommendations on possible ways forward for further cooperation. The workshop was considered an important step toward the implementation of the recently adopted ASEAN Convention against Trafficking in Persons, especially Women and Children (ACTIP) by the ASEAN leaders on 21 November 2015 which aims at effectively prevent and combat trafficking in persons, especially women and children; protect and assist human trafficking victims with full respect for their human rights; and promote cooperation among relevant parties.
