EU Co-Chaired the ARF ISM Meeting on Maritime Security

The 10th ARF Inter-Sessional Meeting (ISM) on Maritime Security took place on 27-28 March in Brisbane, Australia. The meeting was co-chaired by Australia, Vietnam and the EU as the three lead the maritime security stream of the ARF for the period 2018-2020. The EU was represented by Francois Rivasseau, Head of EEAS Security Policy Unit.  The meeting reviewed the maritime-related initiatives in the region. Participants also exchanged views on regional developments, maritime security cooperation, safety of navigation (the EU gave a presentation on GPS spoofing and cyber-attacks on navigation systems) as well as on protection of marine environment, sustainable development and Illegal, Unlawful and Unregulated (IUU) fishing. Australia, Vietnam and the EU presented a proposal for a second workshop on enhancing cooperation between maritime law enforcement agencies.
