Dear Friends,

As the EU and ASEAN keep on strengthening their ties, I am pleased to present you our second newsletter providing you with insights of our latest developments, initiatives, discussions and vibrant cooperation activities in the region and beyond.

The official inauguration ceremony of the EU Mission to ASEAN by unveiling its plaque was held on January 26th, concluding the process of the formal establishment of the diplomatic mission. This came after extremely rich past months with solid and substantive deliverables on the EU-ASEAN agenda on the political and security area, human rights, economic and trade related fields, people-to-people contacts.

In terms of Development Cooperation and continuous support to ASEAN’s integration, I invite you to read the latest highlights of our development actions and initiatives which show case interventions on a wide range of sectors;

such as Higher education, Intellectual Property Rights, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRN) risk mitigation, Civil Aviation integration, agriculture and food security, border management, Human Rights, etc.

I truly hope that you will enjoy reading this newsletter which highlights our main activities and interactions from November 2015 to early February 2016, when the 23rd ASEAN – EU Joint Cooperation Committee, one of the most important EU-ASEAN meetings of this year, took place in Jakarta with the ASEAN Committee of Permanent Representatives.
