In a few weeks Endang Ghani will start his exciting journey to Europe where he will study at Burgas Free University in Bulgaria. Endang is an awardee of the 2015 Erasmus+ scholarship programme. Today, he shares with his inspiring story and his reasons to apply for the scholarship.

Nelson Mandela once said that “education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”.

I believe in these words and that’s why  I have always had the desire to get the highest level of education possible. I believe that education can help me to change my life and my family’s life, and to contribute to a positive change in society.

For me, it was not an easy thing to get where I am today. I had to wait for five years after graduating from senior high school in 2008 before entering university due to financial constraints. In the meantime I worked in a manufacture factory and some companies. While working, I always aimed to improve my abilities, for example by learning English and reading a lot of books to gain knowledge. I had set it on my mind that one day I would continue my education. Then, in 2013, I received the Tempo Scholarship and started to take my bachelor’s degree in Surya University, Indonesia.

Due to my personal experience I know that social and political activities have a great impact on everyone’s lives and on the sustainability of a country. That is why I believe that everyone needs to be aware about current affairs. At university, my friends and I founded the student press agency as a means to convey the aspirations and share the news about political and social conditions both inside and outside the campus. In addition, I also joined wikidpr, a youth movement which aims to cover every activity in the parliament meeting to be disseminated to the public. This movement aims to inform people about the activities of the members of house representatives and the kind of policies and legislation that is being prepared.

In the future I aspire to extent my political and social activities in a more professional way. That is why I need to gain more knowledge and expand my perspective and my network through international exposure.

Then I learned about “Erasmus Mundus SmartLink Project Scholarship – Undergraduate Mobility to Burgas Free University, Bulgaria”. The programme is an ideal opportunity to escalate my proficiency in media and communication studies including the social and political studies through the major of public communication and social psychology. I believe that the programme will also give me the chance to experience international higher education and stimulate the creativity in my way of thinking.

I am the first generation in my family to take up higher level education and I carry my family’s dream for a better and more prosperous life. I am very grateful that I will be able to study at Burgas Free University with the Erasmus+ Smartink Project.

My message to other students who are passionate to build our country and who are searching for ways to extend their knowledge and skills? Aim high, pursue your dreams and  apply for Erasmus+! After all, education is the most powerful weapon which we can use to change the world.
