Implementation of the EU-ASEAN Border Management and Migration Programme II is ongoing across the ASEAN region with already some success stories. For instance, under the umbrella of the programme, INTERPOL deployed a team during the recent Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit 2015 in Manila to help Philippine law enforcement authorities make the event as safe as possible.  With technology provided to immigration officers at seven airports in the country to access INTERPOL’s global databases, some 17.5 million database searches were conducted during the APEC summit. Multiple hits against INTERPOL’s Stolen and Lost Travel documents database also led to the arrest of a wanted individual.

The programme also supports ASEAN Member States through training courses aiming at developing practical knowledge and skills to enhance border security.
