The pilot project for a computerized customs transit management system designed for traders and customs authorities is preparing to go live. The ASEAN Customs Transit System (ACTS) will be trialled between Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand for 6 months, starting in July. With the support of the EU’s ARISE project, more than 180 customs officers, government transport officials, private sector and technical experts have been trained; computer equipment and system software have been installed. Following a successful completion of this first trial, the system is intended to go live in the pilot countries, with Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam (CLMV) joining in the near future.
